OVER 40 WITH SENSITIVE SKIN? I HAVE A SOLUTION!
So if you remember all of the posts I have been writing about how I am completely getting off chemical free sunscreen and figuring out all the allergies tearing up my poor sensitive skin? Turns out a lot of you have written to me telling me “OMG, getting off the chemical sunscreen is working for me!” so it turns out, the chemical free sunscreen posts were a huge success! Thank you for all your kind words and I am truly happy that my post helped you tackle your own skin care products.
As an esthetician, I have the knowledge of understanding skincare more than most.
I mean if I sit there and have to sigh before I start picking out product, I can only imagine what it's like for non estheticians. Trust me girlfriend, I feel your heartache and pain. Some of these companies need to have a swift kick in the pants. That's another post for another day.
TAKING MATTERS INTO MY OWN HANDS
I wanted to know exactly WHAT I was allergic to. So I went to my allergist and got a complete allergy work up on skin and internal allergies. I mean, you can't make informed decisons without proper data right? I could spend another year guessing or I could pony up and pay the $700 out of pocket for an allergy test and really know what I'm allergic to. I figured I would waste more money than that beauty products playing "which one can I use and which one can't I use..."(this is what it looks like)
Can you see the look on my face now? I mean, really oh holy universe? As much as I love you and you do this to me? Two out of my three greatest loves in life and you tell me I am allergic to this? Kiss my fat, white ass.
I am highly allergic to cobalt, POLYPROPYLENE GLYCOL and a host of synthetic fragrances and chemical sunscreens.
Uh. (so why are we still using it?) Use a chemical free sunscreen and a hat.. But I digress...
Unfortunately, most of those ingredients are hidden everywhere. Also, POLYPROPYLENE GLYCOL is literally in so many products that when I found this out I was truly sad.
Does this sound like you?
Well, let me tell you a few things about a line I am so super excited about that I actually want to bring this into my studio.
Once we hit 40 our skin starts to act like a real tool. I swear combined with the sensitivity and aging, it's like I will try anything to slow down the aging process. But when you have sensitive skin, you can't use a lot of the products on the market or you trade in your wrinkles for contact dermatitis. And this crap isn't fun....
I am sure some of you have heard of it, and I have seen it for a while now but never really tried it. But let me tell you what it DOESN’T have in it. Ready?
- MINERAL OIL
- SYNTHETIC FRAGRANCE
- SYNTHETIC COLOR
- SULFATE DETERGENTS
- POLYPROPYLENE GLYCOL
- SYNTHETIC CHELATING AGENTS
- PROPYLENE GLYCOL
Recently I just started on this entire gift set and then a few additional products. Here is one product I am truly ga-ga over! The ProGenius Treatment Oil. And I am truly mad over it. I like it slightly more than my Fresh Seaberry Oil (oh no!)
o let me tell you why I love this treatment oil. (I have a whole series of posts coming on on my love of oils.)If you have menopausal skin and are starting to see the first signs of aging....you better get to loving yourself some of these oils. Finally getting the credit they deserve!
Basically this Pro Genius Treatment Oil is a super hydrating facial oils that are rich in omegas and ten all-natural plant oils. It will instantly smooth and hydrates your skin. Did you hear me? It will instantly smooth and hydrates your skin. Can it come in a gallon size?
And trust me, with the cold Chicago winter coming, you are gonna need it! I use it day and night but if you tend to be a little more on the oily side, use only at night while you sleep peacefully.
I'm also loving this for my cleansing routine....Nude's Perfect Cleanse Omega Cleansing Jelly.
What is so great about Omegas for over 40 skin?
Really it's great for any skin tone but even more so for us gals over 40. EFAs (essential fatty acids) are a vital part of every cell in the body. Omega's impact on the skin, in particular, is that they are a necessary component of the film coating the skin's surface to explain it simply.
Omega-3 fatty acids has been found to be beneficial in individuals with rosacea, ocular rosacea and the inflammatory skin disease psoriasis, leading to reduced itching and erythema. Omega 6 & 9 protects skin from dehydration. And Nude skincare is rich in Omega 6& 9...protecting skin to keep it from getting too dehydrated. #holla #winning!
When your skin is dehydrated your skin is:
- tight, dry and uncomfortable (can I get an amen!)
- your foundation won't lay on the skin properly. Sometimes can cause it to look dry and cakey.
- You will start to show every wrinkle in your face. And I don't know about you but I don't wanna show all that shit off. Okay!
Hydrated skin is healthy skin. Once winter comes combined with the uh, dreaded, uh, hot flashes- your skin goes through so many changes that you need all the help you can get.
WHY I LOVE IT
Besides all the things it doesn't have it in, this cleanser isn't "foamy" or makes your skin feel like it's been stripped down to your bare bones.
(I've never been a fan of foaming cleansers for anyone but that is an entirely personal opinion).
This cleanser also doesn't feel sticky even though the name "jelly" may cause you to think that. (or at least to me it doesn't). This Cleansing Jelly feels like it gently cleanses your face but without leaving it feeling tight or painful. I also had great success taking off my face makeup too, so this little guy can do double duty. Truly loving this cleanser so far and I think it will make it in my rotation of cleansing oils that I am so fond of..
What I want for Christmas (is my hubby reading this? LOL)
I really want to order this set for Christmas for myself. Could you die? I want this right now. HA! So if you are looking for a small Christmas present for yourself, why not try it out? I mean, isn't Christmas all about buying ourselves presents too? (Is this wrong? Please tell me this isn't wrong)
This set contains:
- 0.5 oz ProGenius Omega Treatment Oil
- 0.5 oz Advanced Renewal Serum (everyone over 25 should be using a serum of some sort) it's your skincare powerhouse!
- 1.7 oz Advanced Renewal Moisturizer
(I have not personally tried the moisturizer but I did touch it in Sephora a few weeks ago and put it on my must have list while I run out of my Fresh moisturizer). I loved the texture.
Anyway, I am a huge WHORE for skin care products and I know a lot of my gal pals out there over 40 are starting to see the changes in their skin and combined with having sensitive skin it's an uphill battle. I truly am head over heels in love with this line and I hope, pray and will beg that I can bring in this line to the studio. I love it THAT much. As a matter of fact, I want to try it ALL!!!!!!
Have you used the Nude Skin care line? Why do you love it? Leave me a comment below. I would love love love to hear from all of you.
