ARTIST SHOWCASE: SEWN UP BY ALICIA DANE
When I started this blog, it was never my intention to showcase my work on a daily basis. I'm so busy running a business that most days my makeup artistry seems to be coming in dead last. Sadness.
Since our beloved beauty industry has been run amuck with Instagram looks (that all look the same) I wanted to start a series showcasing the work of real working makeup artists across the globe.
Today I am excited to share with you our first submission!
Boston makeup artist Alicia Dane submitted this lovely piece for her artist spotlight. I thought this was beautifully executed and I knew this was a winner!
I teach new makeup artists that learning the art of restraint is just as important as over the top makeup looks. Sometimes there is so much beauty in restraint & balance....
I'm famous for saying things like "Kiss it, don't fuck it" (Which is probably why I don't care too much for Instagram makeup) and this image has been kissed with perfection. The simple strings are just delicate enough to balance the look without over shadowing it. Don't you think?
What inspired you to do this look?
I wanted to create something fun and I like to let my hands do the work. I didn't really look at inspiration for this because I wanted it to be as organic and unique as possible. I knew what color palette and I knew I wanted to use the strings. And voilà!
Clasps were applied with spirit gum to give a super strong hold against the tension of the strings. For the hair, I put it in a high ponytail and used ORIBE ROCK HARD GEL to smooth it down and beg head after party to smooth down the rest of the hair
