ARTIST SHOWCASE: GLOWING SKIN WITH MARGINA DENNIS

ARTIST SHOWCASE: GLOWING SKIN WITH MARGINA DENNIS

If you haven't had the opportunity to meet New York City makeup artist Margina Dennis on the many pro Facebook groups, you're really missing out. Flying just under the radar and not one to peacock, Margina is someone you need to know.

I've had the pleasure of knowing Margina for 10 plus years. She is one of the busiest working artists I know. Her style is precise, fresh and absolute and she knows her worth as a makeup artist.

If you haven't taken a makeup class with Margina, she is a serious artist who is a serious teacher. She will teach you not only how to be a better artist, but how to be a better business person when it comes to your freelance career.

Enjoy these photos and find out what she used to get the look. Margina, it has been a pleasure to call you colleague all these years. xo

>>What inspired you to create this look?

The photographer, Diana King, actually booked for me this editorial shoot because she loved the "yummy skin" that she had seen me create and just told me to do my thing. My inspiration for the shoot was actually many of the pictures you see of kate moss with the sexy smokey eye that isn't  "perfect" and those chiseled cheek bones. and I added the element of the dewey/highlighted skin

>>Special Tricks:
The look of the skin and eyes required alot of mixing and alot of layering to get the desired effect.

>>What were some of the challenges you faced?
I knew we were shooting outside and at night and I have to make sure a kept a good balance so that the skin wouldn't end up looking greasy and enough definition in the eye so that it wouldn't be a black hole

>>What was your biggest fear with this shoot?
We shot in Time Square so my biggest fear was the model. We had to act like body guards for her! She was a good sport.

>>How long have you been a makeup artist?
20 years

>>What would you have done differently?
I would have changed the shape of the shadow application slightly and brought it up on the side of the eyes more instead of out and made the brows a little thicker.
