BEHIND THE SCENES OF OSCAR MAKEUP
Have you ever wanted to go behind the scenes for Best Oscar Makeup? Well, today on Glossible we have just that!
Yesterday, Andie Cumber and I had the very good fortune of being a guest of one of my gal pals, Vivian Baker to the Oscar Symposium. This event was a special "behind the scenes" look of the nominees that were up for Oscars for best makeup.
During this event, you are allowed an up close look on how they decided to create the looks for their characters...and ultimately got nominated for Oscars because of these looks. I could have pinched myself to be in so much amazingness! Truly talented people....and all were so incredibly nice...not one diva attitude to be found.
The nominees for Best Makeup 2015 were:
- Mark Coulier-The Grand Budapest Hotel
- Frances Hannon-The Grand Budapest Hotel
- Bill Corso-Foxcatcher
- Dennis Liddiard-Foxcatcher
- David White-Guardians of the Galaxy
- Elizabeth Yianni Georgiou-Guardians of the Galaxy
In the following images, you will see images of the actors and how they transformed each character. Why look at Instagram when you have these people to swoon over? Here is our journey in images....I hope you enjoy it!
THE GRAND BUDAPEST HOTEL
Turns out this is the one who won best makeup......what do you think?
Tilda Swinton is truly transformed into her character Madam D....
Remember this scene in The Grand Budapest?
Here are the fingers that made it happen! LOL!
This piece was truly remarkable. I believe I screamed when I saw it and touched it. It felt so real. Can you imagine the time it took to make this? I don't know if there is enough Ritilan in the world to get me to have the patience to do this. HA! Color me impressive!
If any of you have seen the movie Foxcatcher, you will know the transformation that Bill Corso did for Steve Carell. As you see, it was truly masterful! One of the most telling signs of how great this makeup was is how long the camera stays on Steve Carell's charcters. You literally can see how seamless it was......
(here is a great article on how Bill Corso transformed Steve Carell)
In Foxcatcher, Dennis & Bill actually lengthend Channing Tatum's jawline to give the look of his character...look how seamless. Amazing!
Guardians of the Galaxy
Guardians of the Galaxy makeup was my personal fav. While I was truly blown away by all the makeup, this one was the most fun! When I see how much work went into all the characters I was thinking to myself, "mamma mia, how long did this take on set each day!" HA! Plus I love space stuff. :P
Not only did I get to meet the Oscar nominees and other past Oscar winners (I met 6 past Oscar winners) but I got to see a glimpse into the film world. I truly was honored to be a part of this special day!
These makeup artists are the cream of the crop and they are fiercely protective of their industry. They work well and play nice together. They need each other. It's very much a collaborative effort and I wish every facet of the beauty industry was like this.......Then I ask, why aren't us fashion and beauty makeup artists like this?
I guess what I'm trying to say is, as artists we should strive to do this level of work for our industry no matter what part of the beauty or makeup industry we are in. Let's keep the bar high and do our BEST work. Let's look up to these film artists as being truly masterful in their craft.
Hope you enjoyed your look in photos.....now to pack for Italy......
